Kid’s Saturday Bike Club
For Children aged 3-18
The main sessions for young riders are at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre in Bradford, partly on our all weather pitches for skills and also on our custom built traffic free 820m road circuit. Ages range from approx three to sixteen. Sessions cost £5 for your first visit which includes membership. Then each week thereafter, it is £3.50 for the first child and £2.50 for each sibling. Prices vary for the evening sessions but generally range from £2.50 to £3. Children are welcome on any bike including stabilisers and balance bikes. Please bring your own bike and helmets must be worn at all times during the sessions. There are a limited number of bikes available to borrow on a first come, first served basis.
The weather can be quite cold at Richard Dunn, especially in Winter so please ensure you have suitable clothing for the weather conditions. Gloves and warm clothing are essential in colder weather.
Running most Saturday mornings all year round from 10:30 am to approx 12.30 , we can offer something for all. There are two main options on a Saturday, the Skills Group and the Roadie Group. The skills group are mainly on the all weather pitches but also get a session on the traffic free road circuit every week and a monthly Time Trial around the full circuit. Anyone can join in the Skills group straight away but in order to take part in the Roadies Group, children must be at least 8 years old and have passed the clubs Bronze + Skills Test. Once passed, children can move freely from skills to roadies and vice versa. Roadies is not a progressions from skills, just a choice for children to take part in depending on what they enjoy.
We have a rolling programme of activities to keep the children engaged and these range from Skills awards from Bronze to Gold to Time Trials/Competitions to Wood Skills (Wood skills are where we bring out planks, ramps and cycling see saws etc to develop off road skills). Each week the children all have the opportunity to ride on the cycle circuit.
Weekly Road racing skills for children who have passed the club’s Bronze Plus Skills test. Run each week on the cycle circuit, these include group riding, sprinting, cornering and bike handling skills as well as mini races etc.
For more information on Saturday sessions, please contact Mike Healey. details are on the contact page. All sessions are subject to change depending on coach availability, weather etc.
