East Bradford Cycling Club is a Clubmark British Cycling Go Ride Club. We provide a programme of activities and Go Ride coaching sessions aimed at young riders up to the age of 18 years. We also have a thriving adult membership.

Clubmark accreditation recognises that the club observes best practice in child protection, coaching and competition, equity and club management. For parents or young cyclists, it provides confidence to know that our Go-Ride Club is safe, well-managed and an exciting place to be. We were one of the first Go Ride Clubs to achieve Clubmark status in the country and have successfully re-accreditied every time. All our coaches have enhanced DBS status and are First Aid trained.

The youth section is by far the biggest section of the club with multiple opportunities for young riders from 3 to 18. Please see below for what the club can offer your child.

Kids Saturday Bike Club

General Club will be held at Appleton Academy 10.30-12.30 every Saturday morning. We will continue to offer off road skills with the added benefit of the use of a 1 km mountain bike circuit, a bigger pump track, a grassed area and various flat paved areas.

We will also continue with tuck shop each week.

Appleton Academy, Woodside Rd, Wyke, Bradford BD12 8AL and is situated 2.7miles away on the A641 towards Huddersfield.

Ages range from approx three to sixteen. Sessions cost £5 for your first visit which includes membership. Then each week thereafter, it is £4 for the first child and £3 for each sibling. Prices vary for the evening sessions but generally range from £2.50 to £3. Children are welcome on any bike including stabilisers and balance bikes. Please bring your own bike and helmets must be worn at all times during the sessions.

Running most Saturday mornings all year round from 10:30 am to approx 12.30 , with a short break part way through, we can offer something for all. There are two main options on a Saturday, the Skills Group and the Roadie Group. Anyone can join in the Skills group straight away but in order to take part in the Roadies Group, children must first pass their Bronze + Skills Test. Once passed, children can move freely from skills to roadies and vice versa. Roadies is not a progressions from skills, just a choice for children to take part in depending on what they enjoy.

Skills Group

Wood Week – MTB Skills

We have a rolling programme of activities to keep the children engaged and these range from Skills awards from Bronze to Gold to  Time Trials/Competitions to Wood Skills (Wood skills are where we bring out planks, ramps and cycling see saws etc to develop off road skills). Each week the children all have the opportunity to ride on the cycle circuit.

Roadie Group

Roadie Skills

Weekly Road racing skills for children who have passed the club’s Bronze Plus Skills test. Run each week on the cycle circuit, these include group riding, sprinting, cornering and bike handling skills. This is at the Hammerstones Cycle Circuit – see the Club Training page.

Youth Development Group

At present at club we have a strong group of East Bradford CC youth riders who are keen to race and are developing all the time. As we have limited space currently on our Race Team, we have decided to set up an East Bradford CC Youth Development Group for those up and coming riders who are not currently on the team but are showing a keen interest at training and want to race.

Included in this group will be riders who, whilst not wanting to race, want to develop their roadcraft, are willing to support club sessions including younger riders and/or learn the first steps to becoming coaches as development is not all about racing.

This will be aimed at Under 14 riders and older.

We are looking at initially offering a YDG hoodie as well as additional coaching support and extra training sessions.

file-11-02-2017-16-06-28In Winter there are weekly road sessions via Mandys Mondays (Run by East Bradford CC by Mandy Parker, Level 2 Road and Time trial Coach) for 11 to 18 year olds. These are designed to develop Winter fitness and racing skills. (They sit at a Level above Saturday morning but below the Club Cluster of training, held on a Wednesday Night for Under 14 and U16 Riders racing road and cross etc). A great intermediate session for riders wanting to develop and progress racing skills or winter fitness. It is attended by riders from all the surrounding clubs and provides a great way of getting to know other riders from outside EBCC.

Our Youth riders compete in a wide range of competitions covering disciplines such as Road, Cyclo-Cross, Mountain Bike, Time Trials, Track and Grass Track. They range from those just wanting to have fun on a bike, to those who take it seriously with the intention of making cycling their career. Many of our older riders race regionally and nationally. We have an outstanding reputation as a development club, preparing riders to take the next step in their careers to move on to professional teams. Our riders have represented Yorkshire and Great Britain and one of them has gone on to represent GB at the Rio Olympics. The Youth Development Squad have access to bespoke one to one training plans and additional sessions.
